Egoscue® Postural Alignment therapy
The Egoscue Method was developed by Pete Egoscue author of Pain Free: A Revolutionary Method for Stopping Pain. Legendary golfer, Jack Nicklaus credits Pete Egoscue for helping him solve his severe chronic back pain. At Fitness Therapy we combine our therapists' expertise with the Egoscue software to assess your posture and create a personalized series of exercises that will put your body back into balance, eliminating the dysfunction that is causing your pain. We closely analyze your posture and recognize structural deviations and compensations so that we can strengthen your weaknesses and provide balance to your body. We find that when the body is balanced between front and back, and left and right, this symmetry will result in pain relief, better strength gains, and more efficient movement.
SUPER SLOW-10 STRENGTH TRAINING
We use this protocol for the safest and most effective workout. Super Slow-10 is proven to increase bone density and reduce soreness while recovering strength that has been lost.
medx lumbar back extension therapy
Designed to help someone relieve chronic back pain by strengthening their back. This is critical for improving posture, core stabilization and makes all other strength gains possible. Investigative reporter Cathryn Jakobson Ramin talks about the MedX lumbar extension machine in Chapter 11 of her book Crooked: Outwitting the Back Pain Industry and Getting on the Road to Recovery, "Within months, it was evident that MedX was effective. Anywhere that a MedX lumbar extensor machine was up and running, spine surgeons complained bitterly that their surgery volume was declining."
GYROTONIC® MOVEMENT METHOD
The result of 30 years of research and development by Juliu Horvath the developer of the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®, we use the Gyrotonic Pulley Tower machine which allows for three dimensional functional movement, supporting the full and natural range of movement of the joints. Its unique weighted pulley system offers smooth even support and resistance throughout the range of motion without jarring or compression. Ultimately contributing to an improved range of motion, flexibility, strength, and balance.
Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue bodywork developed by Ida Rolf. This type of therapy works with the connective tissue in order to break up adhesions, affect posture, facilitate pain relief and healing. It is done by applying slow steady pressure to the body. Once you’ve been injured the interstitial fluid that normally provides lubrication for the tendons, ligaments and connective tissue no longer provides that function. Instead the interstitial fluid becomes an adhesion sticking the affected area together and results in tendonitis, inflammation and a secondary source of pain which is hard to distinguish from the original injury. By applying slow sustained pressure to the affected areas you can restore the tissue to its normal hydration, facilitate pain relief, restore mobility and healing. When a person is suffering from tendonitis they will most likely experience pain associated with this type of massage. As the tissue heals the discomfort from this type of bodywork dissipates.
neural reset therapy®
NRT® is derived from the work of two great scientists, Sherrington and Pflüger, who investigated the nervous system over a century ago to uncover its basic operating laws.
NRT®, developed by Lawrence Woods is a practical, rapid and reliable way to apply the Law of Reciprocal Inhibition and the Law of Symmetry with this advanced form of manual therapy. Muscles are controlled by the nervous system. Your body responds to pain signals by tightening surrounding muscles to guard you and protect you. Unfortunately, muscles that turn on and won’t turn off produce more pain through lactic acid build up. Proper application of NRT® resets the nervous system to release a muscle from excessive tension. With the reset, pain and tightness are gone. Joint mobility and posture are improved.
structural body mapping technique
A technique of manual therapy developed by Michael after years of solving pain. He discovered that areas of the body mimic other parts in both shape, function and surprisingly share a connection when it comes to pain. For example the head and heel are similar in shape, they both allow us to pivot in similar fashion, up, down side to side, and around. With this in mind when someone is having neck pain they will usually have a referral pain in the back of the heel and stimulating the referral point acts as a switch to turn off the pain in the area that is the chief complaint. By manipulating the heel and the neck, Michael resolves the primary pain at the neck and the postural cause of the pain, providing immediate and lasting pain relief.
We create our own organic therapeutic herbal oils, salves, and herbal liniments for bodywork treatments. We use herbs that have a long tradition of supporting the musculoskeletal system when there is pain, inflammation and scar tissue.
